Grassroots media in Europe

Statement:
Genero: časopis za feminističku teoriju i studije kulture ("Genero: Journal of Feminist Theory and Cultural Studies") is Belgrade Women’s Studies Center major serial publication and a joint publishing project of BWSC and the Center for Gender and Politics at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade (from the issue 13/2009). Genero was established in 2002.

Žibutė ('Violet') is a Lithuanian feminist internet TV show. It was launched in December 2012 and currently is the only regularly updated grassroots feminist media project in the country with a vision to become a feminist media platform in Eastern Europe, also accessible in English, and with a focus on the region’s extensive feminist scene and history. The show is entirely run by volunteers and recently the first English episode has been launched (with a focus on feminists who fight Neo-Nazism in Lithuania).

Statement:
Women: a cultural review explores the role and representation of gender and sexuality in arts and culture, with a particular focus on the contemporary world. The journal analyses the theory and politics of sexual difference in literature, the media, history, education, law, philosophy, psychoanalysis and the performing and visual arts.

Wolverette is a grrrl zine with an emphasis on riot grrrls, popular culture, literature, sexuality, body politics, etc. The first issue was published in 2007; the zine was founded and gets edited by Dodo B. Every issues is based on a specific topic and for every issue a call for contributions gets organised. So far five issues have been published

Virginia FrauenBuchKritik was founded in 1986, gets published twice a year and reviews books (literature as well as non-fiction) by women and feminist authors, books on women's biographies, women's/gender studies and feminist theory, presents biographies of women authors and feminists etc.

Tulva is a Finnish feminist magazine on popular culture, politics, culture and entertainment. It gets published quarterly by the Non-Profit association Naisasialiitto Unioni ry (Women's Union).

Trabajadora is the magazine of La Secretaría confederal de la Mujer (Confederate Women's Secretary) of the Spanish labor union CCOO. The magazine was founded in 1984 and now gets published quarterly; emphasis on women and work, discrimination, equality, women's rights, etc. All issues since 2001 can get downloaded as pdf-files for free.

Towanda! was (?) an Italian lesbian magazine based in Milan; every issue had a special topic with an emphasis on lesbian culture and politics, lesbian movement and history, queer politics and theory, women's rights /lgbtq rights, homophobia, etc. The magazine was published by Il Dito e La Luna Edizioni in Milan which is specialised in lesbien/gay/queer and feminist literature and publications; the last issue seems to be from 2006, unfortunately neither the magazine's website nor the publisher's website work anylonger
