Ladyfest Tallinn 2011
type=digital_archives
"Ladyfest is a not-for-profit festival that was established in the early 2000s. It is organized by volunteers and highlights female artists, writers, musicians, etc. in a new way. Since the first successful Ladyfest, the event has taken place in many parts of the world, but this March (08.03 - 12.03.2011) Ladyfest kicks off in Tallinn for the first time. This marks a very significant event in Estonian cultural space.
The Ladyfest Tallin festival dates coincide with International Women's Day (08.03) when there is an overall focus on women. Ladyfest thus seeks to remind us that Women's Day is not just about giving tulips to women! The festival emphasises the importance of offering women more space and opportunities for self-expression; and it actively encourages communication with the audience too.
The working group of Ladyfest Tallinn wishes to connect women of different ages, social backgrounds, education, cultural levels, sexual orientation – the festival is inclusive towards any differences and similarities shared by all those who self-identify themselves as a “woman”.
The festival's keywords are: emancipation, tolerance and breaking down prejudices, etc.
The five-day festival will host discussions, workshops, performance, a design market and concerts." (http://www.facebook.com/people/Ladyfest-Tallinn/100002030748936#!/profile.php?id=100002030748936)
