"Ladyfest Leicester’s core objective is to promote and celebrate the creativity of women while raising money for good causes. Most music and arts festivals are still male dominated; Ladyfest Leicester will help restore the balance and provide a safe and comfortable environment for artists to perform and exhibit their work. Ladyfest Leicester will be held over a weekend in October with most of the events happening under one roof and all happening simultaneously; and we will be showcasing music, literature, art and workshops over the weekend.

Ladyfest Olympia 2000

Location

Olympia
United States
47° 1' 57.702" N, 122° 54' 14.5908" W

Olympia, WA in the United States saw the inagural Ladyfest launched 1-6 August 2000. Put together by a team of women, some who were involved in Riot Grrrl, this festival sought to create more lady-friendly spaces for women and transgender folks in counter-cultures and activism. The organizing team explicitly told the crowd to go home and organize something in their own towns; hence Ladyfest as an international phenomena was born!

What was Ladyfest London?

Ladyfest London took place in the summer of 2002, and was a celebration of the achievements of women, primarily in music and the arts. It was run by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis, with money raised being donated to women's charities. Although it was organised predominantly by women the festival was open to all (with the exception of a few of the workshops). For more about the ideas behind Ladyfest visit the Mission page
