Elles Tournent - An international feminist film festival in Brussels

type=project
Teaser Image:

The only Brussels International film festival dedicated entirely to films made by women! The first one happened in 2008, now it's time for the second edition

"We’ve chosen 62 films that will take you to five continents. They explore everything from the exalted to the mundane, from war to working life, social pressure to passion, and the complexities of love. The diversity of films reaffirms that wherever they are, women are boundless in their vision, their interests and their creativity.

The festival is also a unique opportunity to meet the filmmakers, discuss the films and debate the greater issues with a host of experts from NGOs and other associations.

In collaboration with the Brussels’ Cinematek we are also proud to present a rare selection of black and white silent films from the British Film Institute, dating from 1899 to 1917. These short comedies and newsreels offer an astounding glimpse into the days of the suffragettes and other rebellious “bad girls”.

Alongside, the festival’s Prix Cinégalité competition for student films will screen the shortlisted films and award 1000 euro for the most compelling film to address gender and the roles of women in society.

There will also be a special film screening for schools again this year, with a debate of the gender roles and perspectives in the film.

To top it all off, D-Janes will be spinning the decks and getting you grooving to the most uplifting sounds around at the Girly Monday’s party at Café Bota on Saturday night.

We have loved every moment of putting this festival together. We hope you will roll up, roll in, and ENJOY this unique festival, the only Brussels International film festival dedicated entirely to films by women!" (web site)
