Wyrastający ze sceny punk i ruchu riot grrrl, po raz pierwszy odbył się w 2000 roku w Olimpii (Waszyngton, USA). Idea festiwalu okazała się na tyle nośna, że podobne imprezy organizowane są w wielu miastach na świecie. Ladyfest to w pełni demokratyczna scena prezentacji sztuki artystek z różnych pokoleń i środowisk, zarówno profesjonalistek, jak i amatorek. To również przestrzeń dla debiutantek, wyzwolona z komercyjnych reguł rynku sztuki, dyktatu kuratorów i galerników.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Ines Castillo and I am 29 years old. I dedicate most of my time doing literature, art or theater workshops for kids, although I also teach at a high school. I am also an activist- almost full time. Sometimes teaching at the high school gets in my way of doing activist projects. But, yes this is what I do.

"What is Ladyfest?

Ladyfests are non-profit events organised mainly by women; they aim to showcase the talents of female artists and performers. The events are focused mainly on encouraging the talent of women and girls, but are open to everyone. Its roots are in the underground scene.

The first ever Ladyfest took place in Olympia, Washington in 2000. The following year similar events took place across the US (Ladyfest Midwest in Chicago and Ladyfest East in New York) and also in Glasgow, Scotland (Ladyfest Scotland).

Leeds Animation Workshop is a not-for-profit, cooperative company, which produces and distributes animated films and films on social and educational issues.

The organisation began in 1976 as a group of women friends who came together to make a film about the need for pre-school childcare. After completing WHO NEEDS NURSERIES? - WE DO! the group was formally established in 1978 as Leeds Animation Workshop. Since the mid-1980's the Workshop has been run by five women, who between them carry out all stages of the production process, from initial research to final distribution.
